Little Nine Partners Historical Society
Minutes 10/17/07
Members Present: Ann Simmons, Pat and Jim Mara, Gail Kelly, Dave Guernsey, Bob Hedges, Rod Davis, Betty Isler, Barbara Chase, Elaine Hutchinson
A motion to accept the minutes with corrections was made by Elaine and seconded by Betty. Correction: Minutes stated some items were moved from storage to Brush House - correction - all items were moved from storage to Brush House. We no longer have the storage unit.
Finances: Currently $39,211.17.
Discussion regarding the school house on Rt. 199. Barbara has not had any response from her letters to Sen. Liebell or Molinaro. Ann and Barbara will follow up with another letter with copies to Elliott Spitzer - to determine the ownership of the school house. It is currently on State property.
Pictures were donated to LNPHS from the Sadler Family. Hattie Sadler was a former town clerk many years ago. The pictures will be labeled and put into our collections. Rod asked that we make a motion to accept the photos with intent to have some of the photo's on the website. Ann made that motion, Rod seconded. Nine members agreed, Jim was opposed.
Dale Flansburg contacted Ann and would like a copy of the post card of the Mt. Ross bridge under construction. Dale is involved with the history of the railroad and had worked with Betsy and Jay on the Mt. Ross book.
Sales on the books are slow. We will ask Rosey if she could do another book signing, possibly again at the Hammertown Barn prior to the Holidays.
Discussion on the Graham Brush House. Where are we and where are we going. Dave put plastic over the logs on the SW corner of the fireplace. He agreed to put plastic and tighten up the windows/doors for the winter. Our next steps would be major fund raising to tighten up the house so we can begin to put in a heating system in the spring. We would like to be able to have an open house during Memorial Day - Betty has agreed to chair this event. All of us will need to pitch in and help get the house ready. Unfortunately, we had hoped to do something at the house during town decorating day over Thanksgiving weekend. That was unrealistic. Discussion followed regarding paying people to complete some of the work - our volunteer group is spread very thin. Any thoughts, ideas?
We are still planning our program in January/February at Mt. Cow. A newsletter will be sent out for this event.

After books are reprinted, Barbara and Ann will take them to the local book stores.

Barbara reported Membership donations = $235.00. No major donations have been received.

Ann received information on a seminar on Oral Histories from Dutchess County Department of History. Ann passed it along to Rosey Chase who will try to attend.

We discussed a mid winter program. Possibly a historical slide show. We need to view the slides. Rod did take home the slides to view and to try out his new scanner. Rod has slides # 1-86. We are in search of the video. If any member knows of where it could be please contact Ann. If we can get a program together, Charlie Norman has offered Mt. Cow to host this event.

We are still waiting for a quote from Bill Grayson regarding the shed. Jim informed us of a building 16 x 32 of historical value on Stissing Mt. road. Barbara will speak with Louisa Grassi regarding this building. It was designated school house #13. This might possibly be used as a shed, instead of buying another one. Bob Hedges will take a look at the house to see if structurally we can move it. We need to look into costs of moving the house.
